‘Summer Paradise’ certified silver in the UK

One of Simple Plan’s biggest hits to date – their summer bop ‘Summer Paradise’ has recently reached another important honor. The song’s version featuring Sean Paul has been certified silver in the United Kingdom.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song was issued the Brit Certified Silver Award on August 12th after it sold over 200 000 units in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company.

Besides this certification, Summer Paradise is also certified 3x platinum in Canada (240 000 units), 2x platinum in Australia (140 000 units), and 1x platinum in Italy and Switzerland, after selling 30 000 units each.

Originally the song was first released on the album Get Your Heart On in 2011 featuring K’Naan, however once the time has come for the band to release the song as a single, it unfortunately collided with K’Naan’s own releases and because of that his version could not be the one to become a single. Simple Plan however trusted the song had big potential and asked rapper Sean Paul to be featured on the song instead and even appear in its music video. The single was released on February 27th 2012 and the music video came out on March 30th 2012, soon to become SP’s biggest music video to date – as of writing this article, the video has over 137 million views on YouTube.

Simple Plan & other artists performed a new collaborative version of ‘Summer Paradise’ on Music Matters Live From Home

In the current climate, when getting together as a band is fairly impossible, the Singaporean music initiative Music Matters decided to bring artists back together – at least over the miracle that is the Internet.

Pierre and Chuck from Simple Plan took the role of hosts of a special collaborative livestream today on Music Matters‘ YouTube channel, where they were joined by the Australian band Sheppard, singer Quest from the Philippines, American rapper Lil J, Singaporean singer Rriley and Indonesian singer Teddy Adhitya. In the beginning, all artists introduced themselves and Pierre and Chuck kept the conversation going by quizzing them about topics such as productivity and creativity in isolation and then also introduced their music by playing a few clips from each of the artists’ songs.

The highlight of the livestream however was when all the artists presented the special collaboration they did together on Simple Plan’s song ‘Summer Paradise’, hence creating another version of this popular summer hit. According to Pierre, Sebastien started it by recording his guitars and then passing it onto Pierre, after which Jeff and David did their parts, Chuck added the drums by slapping his knees, after which the rest of the artists added their own flavor to this special version of ‘Summer Paradise’.

Watch Patrick Langlois sing Summer Paradise with Sebastien on guitar live on radio

This morning on the show ‘On est tous debout’ on Montreal’s Rouge 107.3 radio was quite a funny one. Patrick Langlois, who is one of the hosts of this program, exchanged his usual spoken voice for a singing voice and alongside his Man Of The Hour co-host, Simple Plan’s Sebastien Lefebvre, performed Simple Plan’s 2012 hit single ‘Summer Paradise’.

For those of you who may be newer to Simple Plan and are wondering who Patrick is… Patrick Langlois is definitely not a singer. Until 2008, Pat used to be Simple Plan’s merch guy, photographer, videographer and tour manager back in the early days of the band and you can even find him in the background of many Simple Plan music videos from the early 2000s. But most of all, even after all these years he’s still one of the dearest friends of the guys in the band. He’s since moved on to do bigger things and is now a full time radio & sometimes also TV host and a pretty well-known personality in Montreal.

Let’s have a look at how well Patrick did with ‘Summer Paradise’ on the video below:

Summer Paradise becomes Simple Plan’s first video to reach 100 million views on YouTube!

Six years since its official premiere in 2012, Simple Plan’s music video for ‘Summer Paradise’ (feat. Sean Paul) finally reached 100 million views on YouTube, making it the very first music video by this band to reach this huge milestone. The video was directed by Simple Plan’s long-time collaborator Mark Staubach and Randall RT! Throne in Barbados back in March 2012.

And it isn’t just the video itself that has become so popular! The song, which is featured on Simple Plan’s fourth studio album ‘Get Your Heart On!’, has become one of Simple Plan’s most popular songs to date – especially in Canada, Europe and Australia. The song is currently certified triple platinum in Canada, double platinum in Australia, platinum in Switzerland, Denmark and Italy and gold in Germany and Austria.

Due to its popularity, many versions of this song have been released over the years, such as feat. MKTO, K’Naan, Taka from One OK Rock, a couple of French versions and many others.

With the coming of winter, let’s remind ourselves of this classic track and bring a little bit of summer back to our lives:

Two Simple Plan songs among the 100 most popular Canadian songs of the new millenium

The Canadian server CBC.ca finally revealed the complete list of the Top 100 most popular Canadian songs from 2001 to the present day. This list was established by Nielsen Soundscan, which tracked the amount of radio plays each and every song gots across the country during the era of the new millenium (between January 1st 2001 till now).

According to this interesting list, not just one – but two Simple Plan songs are among the most popular Canadian songs on the radio. Interestingly, both songs were released on Simple Plan’s (so far) last studio album Get Your Heart On! (2011) – namely “Summer Paradise”, which reached no. 30 and “Jet Lag” on no. 59.

Congratulations, Simple Plan!
