While on Warped Tour, two members of The Maine (Pat Kirch and Garrett Nickelsen) recently interviewed Sebastien from Simple Plan in the back of their tour bus and band member to band member got him talking about some very interesting music-related topics in their The 8123 Podcast. In the 40 minutes of this interview, Sebastien discussed how Simple Plan got their first big break, how they invented the word “vlog”, described the struggles of putting together a setlist of all their greatest hits and how interesting it is to have certain songs only popular in certain regions.
In this article, we’d like to point out one particular part of the interview, in which Seb talked about the band’s plans for their upcoming 6th album. Originally, Simple Plan mentioned in various interviews that they might start working on it during Warped Tour, but as expected, due to how straining this tour has been and that there isn’t really that much free time between sleeping, traveling, playing and meeting fans, it doesn’t seem to be very likely the guys will start song-writing while on the road anytime soon. The plan now seems to be to start working on album #6 as soon as they’re off the road.
However, there still seems to be plenty of unanswered questions regarding how the process of making of this new Simple Plan record will be conducted. In this interview, Sebastien noted that there are many opinions within the band regarding the producer they could go with and what his approach to the new album should be. According to Seb, the band is ready to try producing music on their own and get a producer for just a few songs. But will that hold with the rest of the band? That remains to be seen. Another interesting fact we’ve learned from this interview is that the band still considers releasing their album in batches, as first suggested by Chuck in an interview back in April. Sebastien agrees that with how times have changed in the music industry and with platforms such as Spotify being here always available for fans’ instant music needs, it is not necessary for artists to release full albums – instead we can possibly expect just a few new Simple Plan songs perhaps early next year.
