Coeur de Pirate explains reasons behind her not being featured on the French version of Jet Lag

It is no secret that Marie-Mai wasn’t Simple Plan’s first choice when it came to the final decision about which female singer would be featured on the French version of Simple Plan’s song ‘Jet Lag’. While the English version had Natasha Bedingfield, Simple Plan also wanted to release a French version of the song for the French-speaking countries, such as Canada or France and needed the perfect voice for the part.

Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate (real name Béatrice Martin), who co-wrote the song with Chuck Comeau and Pierre Bouvier was actually the band’s first choice. But why exactly did the version with her not make it to the official French single and Simple Plan went with Marie-Mai instead? Coeur de Pirate explained it in a recent interview for the Dutch website Artiesten Nieuws [thanks Susan for the translation]:

“[Simple Plan] wanted to release the single around the time my own album ‘Blonde’ was supposed to come out and it wasn’t exactly planned like that originally. After a small discussion, I finally said ‘ok whatever’ and then someone else got chosen.

This is not the first time an artist worked on a song with Simple Plan, but his version wasn’t eventually used as a single. On the same album – Get Your Heart On! – fans can find the version of Summer Paradise that features Canadian-Somali rapper K’Naan. When it came to the time when Summer Paradise was supposed to be released (ahead of summer 2012), K’Naan’s record company realized it would collide with the release of K’Naan’s own new single, which led to Simple Plan having to re-record the song with a different artist. That artist being Sean Paul. Ironically for K’Naan – Sean Paul’s version of the song became of one Simple Plan’s greatest hits to date. A version of the song that isn’t even featured in the official tracklist of the fourth album.

Of course, over time, similarly to Summer Paradise, we also got to hear plenty of versions of Jet Lag, as Simple Plan like to perform this song with whichever female artist is around when they are performing [read more about all the female singers who were featured on Jet Lag over the years in this section]. Coeur de Pirate got to perform the song live with Simple Plan at the Simple Plan Foundation benefit event in 2013 [watch it here] and the recorded version of Jet Lag feat. Coeaur de Pirate also already made its way on the Internet. So in case you haven’t heard it yet, check it out below:

5 years since the release of “Get Your Heart On!”

Exactly 5 years ago on this day, on June 21st 2011, Simple Plan released their 4th studio album – ‘Get Your Heart On!’.

To this day, GYHO [as fans like to shorten it] has the highest amount of collaborations on any Simple Plan album. These collaborations include Marie-Mai and Natasha Bedingfield [and other live singers] on ‘Jet Lag’, Sean Paul, K’Naan, MKTO and other on the many versions of ‘Summer Paradise’, Alex Gaskarth on ‘Freaking Me Out’ and Rivers Cuomo on ‘Can’t Keep My Hands Off You’.

Two years later (in 2013), GYHO got a little baby brother in a form of an EP called ‘Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming’, which featured a number of b-sides from the writing process of GYHO.

Can you believe you’ve been listening to this record for 5 years now? What is you favorite song?

Simple Plan to release new music video in a week + first sneak peeks

Yes! Simple Plan’s long awaited official first single and its accompanying music video will be released this coming Friday, October 16th. The song, which currently hides under the shortcut “Bed” in the hashtag the band promotes it with (#SPBed), will be hitting the internet in a form of a music video that the band shot in August and about which Jeff has already mentioned that it’s “kind of a spoof on a funny TV show”.

Well, from the just released promotional stills from the music video that the guys posted on Instagram, we can already guess which TV show the guys might be making fun of (am I right?)… :)

Are you excited for the new music?

Two Simple Plan songs among the 100 most popular Canadian songs of the new millenium

The Canadian server CBC.ca finally revealed the complete list of the Top 100 most popular Canadian songs from 2001 to the present day. This list was established by Nielsen Soundscan, which tracked the amount of radio plays each and every song gots across the country during the era of the new millenium (between January 1st 2001 till now).

According to this interesting list, not just one – but two Simple Plan songs are among the most popular Canadian songs on the radio. Interestingly, both songs were released on Simple Plan’s (so far) last studio album Get Your Heart On! (2011) – namely “Summer Paradise”, which reached no. 30 and “Jet Lag” on no. 59.

Congratulations, Simple Plan!

4 years since the release of “Get Your Heart On!”

That’s right! Today, we commemorate the 4th anniversary of Simple Plan’s last studio album, which was released on June 21st 2011, called “Get Your Heart On!”.

This album, which has been certified gold in Canada, is mostly known for singles such as Jet Lag, Astronaut, Summer Paradise and This Song Saved My Life. Out of these four, Summer Paradise was the one to bring the most attention from all over the world, mostly due to its many versions. Some of the songs that didn’t make it to this particular album, have been later released in 2013 in the EP “Get Your Heart On: The Second Coming”.

Luckily, the fans don’t have to wait much longer for the band’s next album, as the they will be releasing it in just a few months, with the first single coming up in the next couple of days.
