Flagstaff & Vegas recap: SP back on stage, marriage proposal & David’s birthday

After the close call of leaving Texas right before hurricane Harvey devastatingly hit this state, having to postpone the two shows there and after a couple days off, Simple Plan once again got back on stage on Monday to continue with their 15th anniversary No Pads tour. Thanks to Jenna and her recounts from the past two shows that she’s attended, you can now read up below on what went on in the SP world in the past two days.

Flagstaff, AZ

The first stop of the week led Simple Plan to Flagstaff, AZ, to where Chuck and Pierre flew from California, as they decided to return home to their families with the three additional days off due to show cancelations. Unfortunately their flights back were delayed, which meant that the SP Crew soundcheck attendees only got to meet Jeff and Sebastien. Nevertheless, the duo definitely made it up to them and everyone left the soundcheck very happy.

It was the first time on this tour that not two, but three opening bands performed, with the recent addition of The Bottom Line (alongside Patent Pending and Set It Off). And it wasn’t just that what made that night in Arizona so memorable. A couple with their 5-year-old child actually got invited on stage by the band, after Pierre saw the sign in the crowd that said “I skipped first grade today to get on stage” – which in the end turned into a marriage proposal of the child’s parents (spoiler alert: she said yes). Funny enough, the song that was on the setlist right after the proposal was “Your Love Is A Lie”, which Pierre commented by saying: ‘The fact that there was just a proposal followed by that song was a complete accident… it had nothing to do with you two.’

Las Vegas, NV

The following day, Simple Plan headed to Las Vegas, NV, where they were to play at the almost sold-out Brooklyn Bowl. During soundcheck, Pierre once again brought up a cover of Green Day’s ‘Time Of Your Life’… that is, until he forgot the lyrics…

The uniqueness of this show for one reason lied in the absence of David – most importantly due to the fact that it was his birthday that day. Of course, his bandmates did not forget this special day and made sure their friend knew he was loved as they made the whole crowd sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to David. Maureen captured this special moment for SP.cz on the video below:

Both shows followed the same setlist as we’ve published for the previous U.S. shows earlier. This is what it looked like:
