Drummers of Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Papa Roach unite

Since Good Charlotte was playing Los Angeles on Thursday night, it was a given that many local music-related people could not miss this event. So of course the attendees of the show had the chance to spot there people like Jack Barakat from All Time Low, Marko DeSantis from Sugarcult, Tony Palermo from Papa Roach, the head of Idobi radio Tom Cheney, Simple Plan’s Australian director Peter John and last but not least Chuck Comeau from Simple Plan. It was hard not to know about the latter when Joel from Good Charlotte announced “Simple Plan is in the house tonight!”.

This has of course given some of the musicians a chance to unite and that’s exactly what three of the attending drummers did – Chuck, Tony and Dean Butterworth from Good Charlotte got to hang out and exchange some drum talk between the three of them. Tony Palermo later posted this photo of the three drummers together with the following comment:

Drummer hang with Chuck Comeau and Dean Butterworth. Dean killed it last night with Good Charlotte. I met Chuck when he was 14 opening for Ten Foot Pole in Montreal. Proud of him for growing up behind the drums. We talked about drumming as something we could never not do. And thanks to Marko DeSantis for the ride last night.

Hey @chuckcomeau. What do you think of @goodcharlotteband?

LISTEN: Pierre collaborates on a new Xmas song feat. Alex Gaskarth, Ashton Irwin, Joel Madden and John Feldmann!

Are you already tired of listening to the same old pop punk Xmas songs? Is ‘My Christmas List’ too old for you? Well you’re in luck, cause some of the biggest names of pop-punk have just released a collaborative version of the popular Christmas song called ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’

The song features All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier, Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden, 5 Seconds of Summer’s Ashton Irwin and Goldfinger’s John Feldmann!

The song was first mentioned today by Alex Gaskarth on his Facebook page, where he wrote:

Hello my loves!

Around this time last year, me and some good friends thought it’d be fun to record a holiday jam for the world to hear. We lit a fire, made hot chocolate, and put our musical spin on a holiday classic, with producer genius, John Feldmann at the helm!

We all knew we wanted to do something special with it to help people, so we decided to wait until this year to give everyone a listen! We’ve been working with Ryan Seacrest Foundation to raise money for an amazing cause, so we ask that in return for this track, you donate whatever you can spare to the foundation. Please follow the links and give whatever you can!

Big thanks to Ashton (5 Seconds of Summer), Joel (Good Charlotte), Pierre (Simple Plan), and John (Goldfinger) for collaborating on this with me! Holiday super groups are the best kind!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and thanks for listening! Hope you enjoy!

Xo
Alex

Come on over here by the fire
It’s cold outside
No-one wants to be cold at Christmas baby
Oh yeah

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

Chuck hangs out with the Madden brothers (Good Charlotte) in the studio

Chuck Comeau is still in Los Angeles, where him and Pierre are working on some new songs for the upcoming Simple Plan EP (coming out in 2013) and perhaps even for the new album. And while in LA, he decided to catch up with some old friends yesterday – Joel and Benji Madden from Good Charlotte – in their studio (for the full picture, check out the gallery)!

Simple Plan and Good Charlotte have been very close ever since the early beginnings of Simple Plan. After touring for a bit, Joel Madden (lead singer for Good Charlotte) lent his voice to You Don’t Mean Anything on Simple Plan’s debut album No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls (2002). Later on, the bands’ paths crossed again in 2005 when they literally played on one stage together at MTV Asia Aid (“Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous / Shut Up!”) and later that year toured together on the “Noise to the World” tour in the US. The bands met up again in 2010 on the Bamboozle Road Show in the US and also casually met up with Joel Madden in Australia last year.

The question is: does Chuck hanging out with the Madden twins in the studio mean just that or is there something more to it? Could there be another SP x GC collaboration in works? Now that’s something to ponder.

What do you guys think?
