Simple Plan are releasing No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls on vinyl!

To continue celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut album ‘No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls’, Simple Plan are releasing this record for the first time in the form of a vinyl this year! And wanna know the best part? It’s actually already out!

This is only a mock-up visual of the No Pads vinyl and may not 100% represent the actual release.
It is currently unknown what color is the vinyl disc itself.

Despite no official confirmation from the band itself, SimplePlan.cz has found out that the Internet has been slowly filling up with links to online music stores all over the world, which already started selling the reissue of Simple Plan’s first album – on vinyl!

According to the Czech online music store Vltava.cz, the vinyl was released (at least in the Czech Republic) on June 2nd. The price ranges on various Czech online music stores between 413 to 499 CZK (from about 15.2 € to 18.5 €).

Similarly, the vinyl can also be found in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy or Hungary. In most European countries, the release date was apparently June 9th. In Japan, the No Pads vinyl is expected to be released on June 30th.

All the websites indicate that the vinyl features 12 songs from No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls. That means bonus songs, such as ‘Grow Up’ or the live version of the cover of ‘American Jesus’ don’t seem to be included on this vinyl.

As the band still remains silent about the release of this vinyl, it is currently unknown when this limited edition vinyl will be available in other countries. We are currently trying to find out more official info about the release of this vinyl. Stay tuned for more info!

Simple Plan’s debut album has previously never been released on vinyl before. Its release closely follows the release of the Taking One For The Team vinyl, which is available since last year. Besides these two records, Simple Plan also released their third, self-titled album on vinyl. Singles that are available on smaller, 7-inch vinyls include Addicted, Welcome To My Life, Crazy, Untitled, Shut Up and When I’m Gone.

Patrick Langlois commemorates NPNHJB’s 15th anniversary

Simple Plan’s debut album is celebrating 15 years since its release today and it’s not just the band that is celebrating this big anniversary.

Over the years there probably hasn’t been a person more associated with Simple Plan, than the so-called “6th member” of the band, Patrick Langlois. Patrick started out as the guys’ friend, who took it upon himself to help the band out, spread the word about them at shows with a cassette recorder in his hands, sold their merch at the merch table, starred in the band’s music videos, took pictures, filmed videos and also ran their website. In 2009 Patrick decided to leave SP and move his career to the next level – and now we can see him doing extremely well as one of Canada’s favorite TV and radio hosts. Besides that, he still finds the time every week to record the latest Man Of The Hour podcast with Sebastien from Simple Plan.

So to commemorate the release of the record, which helped start off not only Simple Plan’s but also his career, Patrick posted a picture of Simple Plan’s first golden record for NPNHJB, along with a touching message. Read it for yourself below:

“15 years ago today, Simple Plan’s debut record “No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls” came out. This album, and the 5 guys who played on it, single handedly changed the course of my life and career. I travelled the world, made friends for life and became the person I am today. Through the years, the guys always gave me my own plaques for all their amazing achievements. This was the very first one we got, and it will always be the most special. And that’s why, 15 years later, it still hangs on my wall today. Proud of the boys, their great musical legacy and the fact that they are still at it after all these years.”

FLASHBACK: How Simple Plan once got kicked out of the studio

You may have already seen Jeff post another throwback picture from around 2001 when Simple Plan were recording their debut album No Pads, No Helmets.. Just Balls. This particular picture is very unusual as you won’t be able to see the band members in the studio, but rather on a bed in a hotel room.

Jeff published the picture with the following description: “Remember that time when we got kicked out of Arnyard Studios (I actually don’t remember why) and the 6 of us stayed in a single hotel room for a few days? That was during the making of NPNHJB and if I remember well, Pierre was working on “My Christmas List”.”

And even though Jeff doesn’t remember the exact reason why he, his bandmates and Patrick all got kicked out of the studio, that doesn’t mean nobody else does! And if you’ve watched the 10th No Pads anniversary webchat 5 years ago, you’ve heard the story once too. And if you didn’t, you are about to now!

Below, you can read up on Pierre’s recollection of the events that led to SP being forced to move from their ‘luxurious’ no-window room in the studio with bunk beds into a hotel room:

“I remember this one time… Because we were sleeping in this room that was like a small room, no windows, 6 guys… 5 guys.. no, 6 – Patrick was there. And it was so disgusting, we used to sneak out and sleep in the living room. And Arnold Lanni, our producer, kinda let us stay there for free, but he said: ‘Don’t sleep in the living room!’ And we slept there anyways. And one morning he came in and we have moved the beds and he got so mad he kicked us out of the studio and we had to go to a hotel.” – Pierre Bouvier

Below, you can read Simple Plan’s official statement regarding this very exciting tour:

It’s hard to believe that this year, we will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of our debut album “No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls”. To commemorate this very special milestone, we are extremely excited to announce that we will be heading out on tour performing our entire first album all over the US. Even cooler, the tour kicks off on March 19th, the exact date the album came out, back in 2002.

These last 15 years have been an incredible journey for us. From rehearsing and writing songs in our parents’ basements to selling millions of albums and playing shows all over the world, we got to live so many of our dreams and we couldn’t be more grateful. The best part is that we got to do it all with the same 5 friends who started the band together; we couldn’t be more proud of that.

After releasing our 5th album last year and playing more than 100 shows in over 40 countries, we felt it was important take this opportunity to look back and celebrate the amazing adventure we’ve had as a band and as friends. It felt important to do something special, something we’ve never done before to mark this landmark in our lives. This is why we wanted to do this tour. “No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls” changed everything for us and we are so excited to play all these songs again and relive a time in our lives full of so many amazing memories.

More than anything, we wanted to do this tour for you, our fans, who have been there since day one supporting us. So many of you have told us how much these songs have meant to you over the years and how this record had a big impact on your lives. We hope these shows can make you feel like you’re just a kid again, make you want to sing your heart out and bring you back to a time where nothing mattered except listening to music, hanging out with friends and going to concerts.

2017 is gonna be an amazing year of celebration and we really hope you’ll be able to join us for these very unique shows!

See you soon!

Pierre, Chuck, Sebastien, Jeff and David.
