The first decade of the 21st century is coming to its end and the year 2010 is nearly here. Let’s commemorate then all the important things that have happened in the Simple Plan world this year and predict what’s gonna happen next year. Here is the recap of 2009:
At the beginning of the year, Simple Plan attended the famouse canadian hockey event – All-Star Game – where they also performed few songs. In February, the album of American rapper MC Larse “This Gigantic Robot Kills” was released – Pierre and Seb from Simple Plan and also Pierre’s brother Jay collaborated on this album. Pierre collaborated most significantly on the song “It’s Not Easy (Being Green)”, where he sings on the chorus.
David was definitely the biggest chameleon of 2009 – at the beginning we knew him with his very short black hair – but he changed it surprisingly to blonde a couple months later. Though, after a while, he must have been tired of the new look, because he dyed his hair black again. It wasn’t simple to notice all these hair changes because of David’s habit of covering his hair under a black hat. All the time.
2 major events dominated the month of March: yet the biggest brazilian tour of Simple Plan and the Juno Awards – Simple Plan were nominated in 2 categories (Group of the Year and Album of the Year). Unfortunately, Simple Plan didn’t win in any of these categories. In March, Chuck joined the currently fastest growing social network on the Internet – Twitter. Actually the whole year has been the year of tweets (short updates on Twitter) – thanks to them, we learnt what’s been up with SP every single day. Apart from Chuck, on Twitter you can find also Sebastien, Pierre, Simple Plan, Patrick, Frenchie, Fred, Role Model Clothing and even Patrick’s dog Kovi.
Reset, the band that preceded Simple Plan, reunited for one performance in April for the 10th anniversary of 123 Punk. In this month Sebastien started publishing his own songs on MySpace. June 2009 definitely is a milestone of Simple Plan’s history, as they won for the 6th time in the row a Much Music Video Award (MMVA) – in the category Fave Canadian Video (for the music video Save You).
From June to August, Simple Plan performed on many summer festivals across Canada and in August they also visited Russia and Israel. Also SimplePlan.cz celebrated 2 years of its existence. In September the annual Simple Plan Foundation benefit event took place in Canada and it was a real success – more than $125 000 was raised! Sebastien’s first sinlge “I Fall For You” was released in September and we also witnessed the first or many mlogs – music video blogs, which Sebastien still keeps posting.
On October 20th, Sebastien released his first EP (an album with a low count of songs) entitled You Are Here / Vous Etes Ici, where he showed his fans 7 songs (recorded and produced only by himself). A music video for the first single (the forementioned “I Fall For You”) was directed by Chuck Comeau. In November, the new album of the band Faber Drive was released and 2 songs (“G-Get Up And Dance” and “Our Last Goodbye”) we co-written by Pierre from Simple Plan. At the end of November, Sebastien did a short tour across few canadian cities, to promote the songs from his new EP. In December, Chuck, Pierre, Seb and Frenchie all discovered a videochat on Twitteru, the so-called Twitcam – and thanks to this technology, they were able to answer fans’ questions live in via a videochat.
And what can we expect from the year 2010? Pierre and Chuck will continue writing the songs for the new Simple Plan album, so that they can hit the studio in late February. Next there should be few months of recording and post-production, so the 4th album should be released probably in summer 2010. According to the information we have from the SP guys, the new album should have a “back to the roots” flavour and the songs should be funny and entertaining. From summer, we can expect tours across the whole world, as Simple Plan have promised to visit all the places they’ve toured already and also the places they’ve never been to. Apart from that, Sebastien is preparing new songs for his next EP, so we can expect also his music in 2010.
So there’s plenty of stuff we can look forward to, don’t you think?
